It's time to say goodbye to this trusty old electric cooktop.
Goodbye to water baths for cooking rice.
Goodbye to burners that stay hot after you turn them off.
This electric cooktop has been donated to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore
and hopefully will be useful to someone else.

detail of fabric on the headboard
the headboard

Here is a headboard for relatively less money that buying one. It is a 3'X4' blank canvas
covered with fabric, in this case the fabric is a damask tablecloth found on the clearance table at a local department store. It was such a find!
The biggest expense was the canvas, I try to get them at Aaron Brothers during
their one cent sale, buy one and the next is one cent, it's a great deal.

These windows are 11 ft tall, finding curtains was going to be a challenge
Instead of having curtains made, we went to N.Y. Elegant Fabrics ( 222 W. 40th street)
and purchased 16 yards of silk, cut into four 4' sections

Box butler came to hang them, we did not have a ladder tall enough!

voila!

Union Station Washington DC
Aditi Indian Kitchen
It's true, on all counts!
buffet
Not only is Union Station one of the most beautiful buildings in the country, they house my
now favorite Indian Restaurant outpost in the food court! The main Aditi Indian Restaurant
is in Georgetown, it's on my list for my next visit to D.C. The food would have been very
good in any setting but, was amazingly good fare for a train station!! My lunch was $7.95,
inexpensive and wonderful!

On a recent chilly day in midtown manhattan, I bought this little bag of chestnuts from a kindly
little man. Remembering the Christmas song involving chestnuts roasting on an open fire, I imagined that they would be fabulous. Surprisingly, they reminded me of a baked potato.A bad baked potato that maybe exploded in the oven and cooked some more. And then there was no sour cream or chives. In case you are wondering about chestnuts, here is the story:

the $3.00 bag

I looked all over Dallas and New York for the perfect winter hat only to find it
at this darling little place in Union Station, Washington D.C.

The beautiful marble mantle pictured here is original to this Greenwich Village brownstone.
I would love to know exactly how old it is. These candles are soy with cotton
wicks, from Bed,Bath and Beyond at 19th street and 6th ave, NYC. They add such a lovely glow to this fireplace.
